PRE + POSTCARE
TATTOO
After care is very important for producing a beautiful and lasting result.
Do not let any water, lotion, soap or makeup touch the treated area during the 2 - 3 weeks after the treatment. However, even if aftercare is followed, it is still impossible to determine the final outcome of the procedure.
Before the Procedure:
1. Hydrate Well
Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment to keep your skin hydrated and healthy.
2. Avoid Sunburn and Tanning
Keep the area free from sunburn or tanning beds for at least two weeks before your tattoo appointment. Sun-damaged skin can affect the tattoo quality and healing.
3. Exfoliate Gently
Gently exfoliate the area a day or two before your appointment to remove dead skin cells. Avoid harsh scrubs on the day of the tattoo.
4. Shave the Area (if necessary)
If your tattoo artist recommends shaving the area, do so a day before your appointment. Use a clean, sharp razor and avoid shaving right before the session to prevent irritation.
5. Avoid Alcohol and Blood Thinners
Refrain from consuming alcohol and blood-thinning medications (like aspirin or certain supplements) at least 24 hours prior, as they can increase bleeding and affect the tattoo process.
6. Get Adequate Rest
Ensure you are well-rested before your appointment to help your body handle the process better.
7. Eat a Good Meal
Have a nutritious meal before your session to keep your blood sugar stable and prevent dizziness or lightheadedness.
8. Wear Comfortable Clothing
Choose loose, comfortable clothing that provides easy access to the area being tattooed and allows you to sit or lie comfortably.
9. Bring Necessary Items
Bring water, snacks, and identification if required. Some studios also recommend bringing your own gloves or other personal items, so check with your artist beforehand.
Additional Tips:
Avoid applying lotions, oils, or creams to the area on the day of your appointment unless instructed by your artist.
Follow any specific instructions given by your tattoo artist, as they may have particular recommendations based on their experience.
After the Procedure:
1. **Follow your tattoo artist's instructions**: Your tattoo artist will provide you with specific aftercare instructions. It's important to follow these instructions carefully to promote proper healing.
2. **Keep the bandage on for the recommended time**:
For Saniderm - leave on for 24 hours, then gently wash with antibacterial soap once removed.
3. **Apply A&D ointment three times a day for three days, then switch to unscented lotion for 2 - 3 weeks
4. **Apply a thin layer of ointment**: Use a recommended tattoo aftercare product or an unscented, gentle lotion to keep your tattoo moist. Apply a thin layer several times a day, but don't overdo it.
5. **Avoid scratching or picking at your tattoo**: It's normal for your tattoo to scab and itch as it heals, but avoid scratching or picking at it to prevent scarring and infection.
6. **Keep your tattoo out of the sun**: Protect your new tattoo from direct sunlight, as UV rays can fade the ink and damage your skin. Once your tattoo is fully healed, use sunscreen to protect it.
7. **Avoid soaking your tattoo**: While your tattoo is healing, avoid swimming, soaking in hot tubs, or taking long baths, as prolonged exposure to water can damage the tattoo.
8. **Wear loose clothing**: Opt for loose, breathable clothing over your tattoo while it heals to prevent irritation.
9. **Stay hydrated and eat healthily**: Proper hydration and nutrition can help your body heal faster, including your tattoo.
10. **Monitor for signs of infection**: If you notice any signs of infection such as excessive redness, swelling, or pus, contact your tattoo artist or a healthcare professional.
